BSN Round 22: Leones lose to Atleticos

The games are now more important than at the beginning of the Regular Season. We may still expect few shocking results in upcoming 4 rounds. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

Round 22 most important game was a defeat of league's leader Leones (17-12). They were edged by fourth ranked Atleticos (15-13) 91-90 on Tuesday night. Atleticos made 17-of-20 free shots (85.0 percent) during the game. American guard Nate Mason (188-1995, college: Minnesota) scored 31 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists to lead the charge for the winners and international forward Jose Rodriguez (201-1992, college: Texas Southern) chipped in 23 points during the contest. Atleticos' coach Manuel Cintron used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. At the losing side American-South Sudanese Nuni Omot (206-1994, college: Baylor) responded with 24 points and 6 rebounds. Atleticos have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain fourth position with 15-13 record. Leones at the other side dropped to the second place with 12 games lost. They were replaced at the leadership position by Arecibo. Leones will play next round against league's leader Capitanes trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Atleticos will try to continue on its current victory against fifth ranked Indios in Mayaguez.
The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Capitanes as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Capitanes defeated 5th ranked Gigantes in Arecibo 102-94. Dominican Victor Liz (193-1986) notched 29 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists (made all of his nine free throws !!!) to lead the effort and Walter Hodge supported him with 22 points and 11 assists. Even a double-double of 18 points and 10 assists by American point guard Tremont Waters (180-1998, college: LSU) did not help to save the game for Gigantes. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Capitanes have a solid three-game winning streak. As mentioned above they took over a top position. Gigantes lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the fourth place with 16 games lost. They share the position with Guaynabo. Gigantes will play next round against league's leader Vaqueros trying to get back on the winning streak. Capitanes will try to continue on its current victory against second ranked Leones at Juana Diaz.
Fifth-ranked Gigantes (11-16) gave a tough game to first ranked Vaqueros (19-8) in Bayamon on Thursday. Vaqueros managed to secure only two-point victory 84-82. However their fans expected much easier game. Kristian Doolittle fired a double-double by scoring 12 points and 18 rebounds for the winners. Sheldon McClellan produced 30 points and 5 steals for lost side. Vaqueros have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 19-8 record. Gigantes lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the fourth place with 16 games lost. They share the position with Guaynabo. Vaqueros will again meet Gigantes (#4) in the next round. Gigantes will have a break next round.

There were no shocking results in the other games in round 22: Guayama lost to Mayaguez on the opponent's court 50-68. Bayamon managed to outperform Guaynabo in a home game 94-77. Mayaguez recorded a loss to Santurce on the road 92-89. Humacao was defeated by Ponce on its own court 90-95. Fajardo was beaten by San German in a road game 92-84.
The most impressive stats of the last round was 16 points and 15 rebounds by Jared Ruiz of Mayaguez.



Mayaguez - Guayama 68-50

The game between closely ranked teams ended with 6th ranked Brujos' (8-19) road loss to fifth ranked Indios (14-14) 50-68 on Wednesday. Indios outrebounded Brujos 43-31 including 37 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists comparing to just 8 passes made by Brujos' players. Naturalized Nicaraguan guard Jared Ruiz (188-1992) fired a double-double by scoring 16 points and 15 rebounds for the winners. American power forward Kaleb Wesson (208-1999, college: Ohio St.) chipped in 17 points and 7 rebounds. American guard Josh Perkins (191-1995, college: Gonzaga, agency: Slash Sports) produced 17 points and 6 assists and his fellow American import power forward Ben McCauley (206-1986, college: NC State) added 6 points and 11 rebounds respectively for lost side. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Indios moved-up to third place, which they share with Fajardo. Loser Brujos keep the sixth position with 19 games lost. They share it with Humacao. Indios will meet Atleticos (#4) in the next round. Brujos will play against Cariduros in Fajardo and hope to secure a win.

Rather predictable result in Bayamon where first ranked Vaqueros (19-8) defeated 4th ranked Mets (11-16) 94-77 on Tuesday. Vaqueros looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. The former international point guard Angel Rodriguez (180-1992, college: Miami, FL) fired a double-double by scoring 15 points, 5 rebounds and 12 assists for the winners. The former international center Ismael Romero (205-1991, agency: BeoBasket) chipped in 21 points and 5 rebounds. American guard Jeff Early Jr (190-1988, college: SIU) produced 20 points and the former international forward Renaldo Balkman (201-1984, college: S.Carolina) added 12 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists respectively for lost side. Four Vaqueros and five Mets players scored in double figures. Vaqueros have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 19-8 record. Mets lost third consecutive game. They keep the fourth place with 16 games lost. They share the position with Carolina. Vaqueros will meet Gigantes (#4) in the next round. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Leones made 8 blocks.
